Authorities Searching for Man
Authorities are on the lookout for a wanted man who escaped in Lee County on Monday night. The search continues in Harnett County on Tuesday. The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies are combing the South River Road and Joe Collins Road area for 49-year-old Eric Shane Stone. They have recovered Stone’s backpack but are still on the hunt for him.
The escape occurred when Lee County deputies tried to arrest Stone at his home on St. Andrews Church Road in Sanford. Stone fled in a 2012 Audi, nearly hitting deputies in the process. On Tuesday afternoon, Harnett County deputies spotted Stone, who then abandoned his car and fled into the woods. Sheriff Wayne Coats of Harnett County stated that the search for Stone will continue until he is apprehended. The search team is utilizing drones with night vision, K-9 units, and a helicopter. The Audi that Stone used to escape has been towed away.
Stone is wanted in Harnett County for being a habitual felon, possession of methamphetamine, and a felony probation violation in Lee County.
