In Clinton, a 20-year-old man, Shawnta Coston, faces serious charges following a violent altercation involving his pregnant girlfriend. Clinton Police Chief Anthony Davis reported that Coston has been charged with felonious restraint, battery of an unborn child, and assault on a female. The situation escalated when a 16-year-old, purportedly Coston’s girlfriend, jumped from a moving vehicle to escape the altercation, prompting hospitalization for her and another juvenile victim involved in the same incident. Both victims, treated at Sampson Regional Medical Center, described a scene of high-speed chaos and violence. Coston is now detained with bail set at $75,000.
