A young child is recovering after being bitten by a stray dog at a Smithfield park on Saturday. Authorities reported that the incident occurred in the 300 block of South Second Street when the five-year-old approached a black lab to pet it. Unfortunately, the dog responded aggressively, biting the child on the face. Emergency services rushed the child to the hospital, where he received multiple stitches for his injuries. Efforts to locate the dog have so far been unsuccessful as it fled the scene immediately following the incident. Police urge residents to exercise caution and report any sightings of stray animals in the area.
