A Johnston County man has been charged with felony animal cruelty after a disturbing video surfaced, showing him repeatedly striking his pit bull with what appears to be a belt. Authorities say the incident took place in early April, with the footage handed over to law enforcement on April 15. Bert Jean, 54, of Garner, was formally charged on April 17 after investigators reviewed the evidence. The four-year-old pit bull, Blue, was removed from the home by animal control officials. Fortunately, her injuries were not considered serious. Jean was released after posting a $30,000 secured bond. The investigation continues.
