Man Convicted of Death by Vehicle and Involuntary Manslaughter

In Johnston County, a tragic incident from November 2022 has reached a legal resolution. Kevin Shawn Kelly, a resident of Clayton, has been sentenced to a prison term ranging from 80 to 118 months. This follows his conviction on multiple charges including felony death by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. The convictions stemmed from an accident on NC 42, where Kelly, driving under the influence, veered into opposing traffic and collided head-on with a Ford Explorer. The crash resulted in the death of Jose Martin Ramirez Hernandez and critically injured passenger Ana Figueroa Hernandez. Blood tests revealed Kelly’s alcohol levels were double the legal limit at the time of the incident.
