Severe Accident On I-95

 

A severe multi-vehicle accident occurred late Friday night on Interstate 95 near Smithfield, involving a semi-truck driver and five other vehicles. According to the State Highway Patrol, the accident happened as traffic slowed due to construction activities north of the Brogden Road Exit. A tractor-trailer failed to decelerate and collided with several cars at high speed. The crash resulted in significant injuries, with at least two people seriously hurt, and others transported to nearby hospitals. Emergency teams from Four Oaks and Smithfield, along with Johnston County EMS, responded to the chaotic scene. The truck driver has been charged with careless and reckless driving. Interstate 95 was closed for several hours, causing major traffic delays. The investigation is ongoing.
