A turkey farm in Sampson County, North Carolina, has confirmed a case of High Path Avian Influenza. Detected initially by the N.C. Department of Agriculture’s Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, the diagnosis was confirmed by the USDA APHIS Lab in Iowa. This marks the second instance this year of the virus in the state’s commercial poultry, following a prior case in a Hyde County egg production facility. To date, North Carolina has reported infections in 12 commercial and eight backyard poultry flocks. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further spread of the disease.
