Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton

On February 4th at approximately 9:30pm, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the address of 101 Bright Leaf Dr, Clayton in reference to a suicidal subject. A second 911 call received from the same caller stated a family member was armed and threatening to harm himself and shoot responding deputies. Upon the arrival of Deputies’, the subject fled from the address on foot followed by deputies. The Deputies encountered the subject in a field behind the home armed with multiple firearms. Deputies attempted to talk with the subject who would not comply with demands to remove his hands from his firearms. Subsequently two Deputies were forced to discharge their weapons resulting in the subject being shot. The subject was transported to Wake-Med with serious but non-life threatening injuries. As is standard protocol, the North Carolina State Bureau of investigation was requested and responded to conduct an independent investigation.  Both Deputies were placed on paid administrative leave which is also standard.
