A troubling incident unfolded on Interstate 40 in Johnston County during the early hours this past Saturday. Officers responded to reports of a wrong-way driver and found a 52-year-old Durham woman critically injured beside the highway. Authorities learned she was traveling with a male acquaintance when a heated argument led to her being pushed from the vehicle. Shockingly, the driver turned around, drove the wrong way, striking her again before fleeing. The victim is recovering in hospital from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement has issued warrants, including charges of assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect remains at large.
