A serious traffic accident occurred on Interstate 40 in Johnston County, involving Andrew Imlay, 64, from Durham. The incident took place at 2:17 p.m. near mile marker 319, in the McGee’s Crossroads area. Driving a 2004 Nissan pickup westbound, Imlay lost control and veered off the roadway, striking a tree. Initially traveling at 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 50 mph before impact. Imlay was trapped within the wreckage and required extrication by first responders. He was subsequently transported to WakeMed for treatment. Imlay has been cited for failing to maintain lane control.
