Darci Lynne: From Ventriloquist Prodigy to Country Music Sensation

Darci Lynne: A Ventriloquist Phenomenon Expands Her Horizons

Darci Lynne, the incredibly talented ventriloquist who captured America’s hearts by winning the twelfth season of “America’s Got Talent” in 2017, has evolved into a multifaceted performer. Known for her charming puppet characters like Petunia Rabbit and Oscar the impressionist, Darci’s innovative act has always blended comedy, singing, and impersonations. However, her journey doesn’t stop there—she’s now making waves in the country music scene and venturing into acting. We sat down to speak with her about her journey so far and what’s next in her career.

From Shyness to Stardom

Darci’s rise to fame is as much about overcoming personal hurdles as it is about her extraordinary talent. “I was just such a reserved, blocked-off kid,” she recalls. “Without ventriloquism and that entire journey on AGT, I probably never would have been able to really perform on a stage and play an hour show and all these things that I’m doing now.” Ventriloquism helped her break free from her shell, allowing her to blossom into the star she is today. She stated that although she still occasionally has bouts of shyness, the entire process helped her tremendously.

The Inspiration Behind “Someone Wake Me Up”

Darci’s latest single, “Someone Wake Me Up,” is a heartfelt anthem that resonates with anyone tired of the modern dating scene. Co-written with Maggie McClure and Shane Henry, the song captures the longing for a genuine, old-school romance.Darci, who is nearly 20, reflected on her experiences, saying she’s been through her share of things that didn’t go as planned. She wanted to create a song about those experiences.“I think the song helps me regain my hope a little bit.”

Crafting the Perfect Tune

Writing “Someone Wake Me Up” was a collaborative effort that took time to perfect. “When I started, it felt pretty solid, but there was just listening back, it was like, ‘There’s something we need to write more of,’” Darci explained. Working with McClure and Henry, they added a new chunk to the chorus, giving the song a cheeky and sassy feel with a bit of funk. The result? A fun, relatable track that’s quickly becoming a fan favorite.

The Road Ahead: Music, Videos, and More

As for what’s next, Darci is exploring her creative options. When asked if a music video is in the works for “Someone Wake Me Up,” she responded, “I envision the video for all my songs… I feel like I have to pick and see which ones I want to do.” While a video isn’t confirmed yet, it’s clear that Darci is open to the idea.

She’s also potentially working on a larger project, an EP or an album. “Hopefully, that’s my goal,” she said. “I’ve just been writing, writing, writing, just trying to figure out this whole music thing.” Darci’s influences range from the soulful Teddy Swims to the classic rock vibes of The Eagles, showcasing her diverse taste and deep passion for music.

From Ventriloquism to the Big Screen

Darci isn’t just focusing on music; she’s also dipping her toes into acting. Her mantra, “I don’t want to be put in a box,” has led her to follow her creativity wherever it takes her—sometimes to the recording studio and, other times, to a movie set. Darci has a small but memorable role in the recently-released Reagan biopic, where she plays a girl who pretends to drown just to be rescued by a young Ronald Reagan.

“Honestly, I just went to the premiere and saw the movie for the first time, and it’s incredible,” she said. “It was so cool to be a part of something like that. And I honestly learned a whole lot about Ronald Reagan.”

A Dream Come True: Performing at the Grand Ole Opry

For any country artist, performing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville is a dream come true, and for Darci, it was no different. “It was so awesome, just because that place is so legendary,” she shared. Reflecting on the experience, she added, “It was such an honor, and especially at a young age… I think I knew how much of an honor it was then, but of course, I was so young. Now I look back on it, and I’m like, ‘Wait, that is so cool.’”

Darci Lynne’s journey is a testament to her incredible talent and versatility. Whether she’s making people laugh with her ventriloquism, touching hearts with her music, or captivating audiences on the big screen, Darci Lynne is a name we’ll be hearing for years to come.
