Drug Arrest During Traffic Stop
In Smithfield, a traffic stop escalated when a driver, identified as Daniel Leigh Barefoot, reportedly turned violent against police officers. The incident occurred when a Smithfield police officer pulled over Barefoot’s 1998 Nissan on North Street due to an expired license plate. During the stop, Barefoot, along with two nervous passengers, was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia hidden under the driver’s seat after a police K-9 alerted officers. Barefoot faces multiple charges including felony possession of methamphetamine, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer, with his bond set at $60,000.
