Drug Bust in Four Oaks
In a significant drug bust in Four Oaks, 27-year-old Melvin Garrett Benton was arrested under multiple felony charges related to marijuana trafficking. This unfolded when a Johnston County deputy, during a routine traffic stop near Four Oaks on the evening of August 21, discovered roughly 30 pounds of marijuana hidden in a crate. Further investigation led authorities to Benton’s residence on Old School Road, where they unearthed an additional pound of marijuana and about $25,000 in cash. Benton now faces four counts of trafficking marijuana, a count of conspiracy to sell, and charges for maintaining a property for drug activities. He is currently held on a $150,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.
