Enhancing Public Safety
Three more towns in Harnett County are enhancing their public safety measures by adding license plate recognition cameras, following the successful implementation of this technology in Dunn. Since their installation in January, these cameras have played a crucial role in solving numerous crimes. In Dunn, ten arrests have been made, with more pending, in connection to recent cases involving larceny, shootings, assaults, property crimes, drug offenses, and weapon investigations, all thanks to the additional surveillance capabilities provided to the Dunn Police Department. Now, the police departments in Angier, Erwin, and Lillington are preparing to adopt the same technology. These towns have received approval to purchase and install license plate recognition (LPR) cameras as part of their 2024-25 budgets.
