A 58-year-old Fayetteville man has died after a shooting on Waterdown Drive Monday evening. Officers responded to reports of gunfire just before 5:20 p.m. and found Michael Whitfield suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders rushed Whitfield to the hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are now treating the case as a homicide and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
