In Johnston County, 18-year-old Evelyn Diaz-Lopez led the State Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase that reached speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour. The pursuit started on Interstate 40 and involved a Dodge Charger that Diaz-Lopez was allegedly driving without a valid license. After a risky maneuver involving sideswiping another vehicle, the chase ended near US-70 when officers lost sight of her car. Diaz-Lopez was later found near an abandoned vehicle in a local store’s parking lot. Facing 10 charges, including felony speed to elude arrest, she is now held on a $200,000 bond.
