Infant dies in crash

A tragic crash on Interstate 95 near Smithfield early Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 4-month-old infant, according to State Highway Patrol troopers.  The infant was traveling in a minivan that struck a guardrail in the median, then veered off the road and into a cornfield. The accident occurred in the northbound lanes near Exit 97 around 3:30 a.m.  The driver of the minivan, Kamorrie Brown from Philadelphia, PA, has been cited for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, child restraint violation, driving without a license, resisting and delaying an investigation, and failure to maintain lane control.  The minivan was carrying five adults and four children at the time of the crash. One man sustained serious injuries and was transported to WakeMed, while four other adults and three children were taken to UNC Johnston Health with minor injuries.
