Johnston Country to enhance outdoor recreation

Johnston County is set to enhance outdoor recreation with an extended greenway project near the upcoming Wilson’s Mills High School. Initially planned as a two-mile stretch, the county commissioners are now pursuing federal grants to potentially double its length, aiming for a four-mile trail. This expansion, estimated at $450,000, is part of a broader vision to connect various community segments, enhancing accessibility and promoting healthy lifestyles. The project, coinciding with the school’s opening, includes acquiring an excavator and trailer to support ongoing trail maintenance. Construction costs are projected between $2 million and $2.5 million per mile, reflecting the investment in sustainable infrastructure.
