Johnston County Has Surge In Property Values
In Johnston County, a surge in property values is causing concern among residents. After a recent reappraisal, average property values jumped by 70.6%, a significant increase from the 24% rise in 2019. This sharp increase could potentially lead to higher property taxes, sparking worries about affordability for homeowners. During a public meeting, the county tax commissioner, Jocelyn Andrews, explained that the valuation was based on a mass appraisal of 120,000 properties. Comparatively, nearby counties have seen smaller increases over different periods. To address these concerns, Johnston County plans to switch to a four-year reappraisal cycle and has initiated an informal appeal process for those questioning their new property values.
