A 29-year-old man, Alejandro Remigio Palacios, has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault and two break-ins in Smithfield, North Carolina. Authorities say Palacios, who has ties to both Smithfield and Charlotte, allegedly entered a North Street home on June 14, where a female juvenile was assaulted. After police were alerted, he fled and broke into another nearby residence, where he hid until the homeowner discovered him. Palacios faces charges including felony breaking and entering, indecent liberties with a minor, and sexual battery. He is currently held on over one million dollars bond.
