A man from western Johnston County faces serious charges after a months-long investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. George Michael Smith, 39, of Pleasant Pine Drive in Angier, has been arrested on nine counts of indecent liberties with a child and nine counts of statutory rape. Authorities report the alleged abuse spanned seven years, beginning when the victim was about seven years old. Smith’s arrest follows a report filed in mid-August of this year. He remains at the Johnston County Detention Center under a $1 million secured bond while the investigation continues.
