Man Charged With Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense

A Four Oaks couple’s attempt to upgrade their home ended in disappointment and financial loss after they hired Wesley Mack Autry of Benson for electrical work. Authorities report that Autry requested $1,200 up front but never began the job, citing repeated excuses like vehicle troubles. When the couple realized the work wouldn’t happen, they contacted the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Following an investigation, Autry, 51, was arrested on charges of felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor failure to work after being paid. He is currently being held on a $30,000 secured bond. Residents are urged to verify contractor credentials and exercise caution with advance payments.
