On Monday, February 24, 2025 at approximately 4:30 pm, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the address of 12557 Buffalo Road, Clayton to investigate what was reported as a shooting. Johnston County Sheriff’s Office communications received a call from someone stating they had shot their wife at this location.
Arriving deputies made contact with 81 year old Roger Gray Preston who lived at the above address. Mr. Preston told deputies his wife was in the RV parked in the front yard of the residence. Deputies located Mr. Preston’s wife, 77 year old Sandra Cobbler Preston, who also lived at this address, deceased in the RV. Ms. Preston was the victim of an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators were notified and responded to the scene to continue the investigation. As the result of the continued investigation, Roger Gray Preston was charged with Murder in the death of his wife, Sandra Cobbler Preston. Mr. Preston is currently being held at the Johnston County Detention Center without bond.
