Authorities are now investigating a recent car crash in Johnston County as a homicide. On February 21, just before 4 a.m., emergency crews responded to a single-car accident on I-95 north near Keen Road. They found 87-year-old Toshio Takashima of Virginia unconscious in a 2017 Ford Mustang. After being hospitalized at WakeMed, Takashima died on March 24, one day before his 88th birthday. Autopsy findings revealed injuries inconsistent with a typical auto accident, prompting a homicide investigation. Law enforcement encourages anyone with relevant information to contact the SBI or Johnston County Sheriff’s Office as the case continues.
