School Resource Officers Receive Significant Boost In Emergency Preparedness
School Resource Officers in Sampson County have received a significant boost in emergency preparedness. Thanks to $9,600 in federal Project ACTIVATE grant funding, officers now have access to advanced trauma response kits and specialized training tailored for school settings. The initiative, led by Project ACTIVATE Director Andrea Rouse in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office, provided 20 Mass Trauma Kits and 20 Individual Trauma Kits, alongside instruction from emergency experts at Rescue Essentials. Sheriff Jimmy Thornton emphasized the positive impact on school safety, noting that this investment gives officers new skills to address crises and better protect students and staff throughout the district.
