A serious collision in Smithfield today (Tuesday) sent four individuals to Wake Medical Center, following a crash involving a passenger car and a small van. The incident unfolded shortly after 11:00 AM at the intersection of N. Brightleaf Boulevard and Peedin Road, where the force of the collision overturned the van, trapping its occupants. Responders from Smithfield Fire Department had to use extrication equipment to free the trapped driver and passenger. Additionally, a young woman and a baby in the car sustained injuries. Johnston County EMS swiftly responded with multiple units. The investigation into the crash’s cause is ongoing as traffic in the area resumes normal flow after significant delays.
