On December 16th at approximately 03:32 am, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to an address on Santa Gertrudis Dr., Clayton in reference to a shooting investigation. The 911 center received from both the shooting victim and the alleged shooter. Upon arrival Deputies discovered the shooting victim at his home on Santa Gertrudis Dr. The shooting victim, a 49 year old male stated his neighbor had shot him. Further investigation determined the neighbor who lives at a separate address on Santa Gertrudis Dr. had shot the victim in what the neighbor described as an attempted breaking and entering to his residence. Preliminary evidence indicated the shooting location to be the home of the neighbor alleging the attempted breaking and entering. Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. The victim in this shooting was transported to Wake Med with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Detectives are in consultation with the District Attorney’s Office regarding the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time however the investigation remains ongoing.
