Police are investigating a jewelry heist at a Zales store in Smithfield that occurred just before closing time on October 12. Two masked suspects, armed with a hammer and a hatchet, entered the store at approximately 7:56 PM. They forced employees to the ground and proceeded to smash several display cases, making off with jewelry valued at around $100,000. The duo fled the scene on foot.
