Snowy and icy conditions Wednesday and Thursday wreaked havoc in Johnston County, leading to a surge in traffic accidents since Wednesday. The State Highway Patrol has been busy responding to numerous incidents. In one notable crash, a pickup truck veered off NC 39 North and slammed into a house, which suffered extensive damage. The impact was severe enough for a Johnston County Building Inspector to declare the home unsafe for living. Meanwhile, another vehicle skidded off Highway 42 near Highway 39, crashing into a tree.
