In a tragic early Sunday morning incident on U.S. Highway 70 in Johnston County, a head-on collision resulted in the death of 24-year-old Kortney Atkins and left three others seriously injured. The crash occurred when a white BMW, driving on the wrong side of the road, collided with a white Jeep Cherokee near the Cornwallis Road underpass. Post-collision, the BMW driver fled the scene. Efforts to locate the suspect, including a search with K-9 units, have so far been unsuccessful. Authorities are actively seeking information and have urged witnesses to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. The community is in shock, and charges are pending against the BMW’s driver once apprehended. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities expect to file charges once the suspect is apprehended.
