Tourism Up
In North Carolina, tourism has hit a new high with visitor spending reaching a staggering $35.6 billion in 2023, marking a 6.9 percent increase from the previous year. This surge has notably boosted employment in the tourism sector, creating an additional 227,224 jobs, up by 4.8 percent. According to Wit Tuttell, Executive Director of Visit NC, this growth is a testament to North Carolina’s rich blend of natural beauty, tradition, and innovation, which continues to attract visitors despite stiff competition. Notably, Johnston County saw a commendable rise in tourism spending, with earnings of nearly $299 million last year, securing its rank as 28th in the state and third in the Triangle area.
