Woman Dies in Sampson County Accident

There was a deadly crash Tuesday afternoon in Sampson County, North Carolina. A fatal vehicle accident occurred when 77-year-old Donna Jean Pearce lost control of her 2007 Ford SUV while traveling south on U.S. Highway 421. The vehicle veered off the road, plunging into the Great Coharie Creek and becoming submerged underwater. Emergency responders and multiple agencies were dispatched to the scene near the 3900 block of U.S. 421 by 2:30 p.m. The section of the highway over the bridge was closed to traffic as rescue operations took place. Unfortunately, Pearce was found deceased inside her SUV. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
