Authorities are currently investigating a single-vehicle accident that disrupted traffic on US 70 in West Smithfield. The incident, which occurred just before 4:00 PM Tuesday, involved a pickup truck that crossed the median from the westbound lanes and overturned in the eastbound lanes near the Amazon facility. Smithfield firefighters had to remove the truck’s roof to extricate a child and two adults trapped inside. At least one of the victims was transported to Wake Med with injuries, the severity of which has not been disclosed. Eastbound traffic was briefly halted but has since reopened.
