Zoning Request Denied

In a recent turn of events, the Smithfield Town Council has unanimously voted to reject a rezoning proposal by Syed Rizvi of New Vision Trust Custodian. The proposal aimed to transform a residential property at 606 South Third Street into a commercial office space. The rejection followed concerns from town planning staff regarding insufficient parking and the inappropriateness of introducing commercial activity into a residential neighborhood. Planning Director Stephens Wensman emphasized the lack of clarity on the specific intended use of the property, suggesting that Conditional Zoning might be a more suitable approach. The council’s decision reflects their commitment to maintaining the residential integrity of the area.
