Over the Labor Day weekend, a tragic accident on I-40 east near Mile Marker 359 resulted in the death of 33-year-old Micheala Venters Capps from Wendell. The incident occurred when Capps tried to switch from the right to the left lane and collided with another vehicle. The impact caused her Chevy Equinox to lose control, veer off the road, and catch fire after striking a bridge piling. The other driver involved, Te Era Jordan, was unharmed. Authorities have stated that neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash. No charges have been filed following the incident.
