In a tragic roadway incident on NC 210 near Old Stage Road, 53-year-old Gregory Wayne Cornell of Clayton lost his life. The accident occurred when Cornell’s Chevy Tahoe veered across the centerline, colliding with a northbound Ford box truck. The crash also involved an Angier police patrol vehicle, which was struck by a dislodged tire from the Tahoe. While Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene, the box truck driver was taken to WakeMed with injuries of undisclosed severity. Fortunately, the Angier police officer involved sustained no injuries. State Trooper J.L. Burton is leading the ongoing investigation to determine the specifics of this devastating event.
