Stolen Motor Vehicle and Equipment

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen 1995 Ford F350 tow truck from Dunn. This tow truck was then used to steal a Caterpillar mini-excavator and a Yanmar excavator from Lillington. Both excavators were recovered in Spring Lake on the same day, and the tow truck was found in Linden the following day.

On Friday, July 26, 2024, another report came in about a stolen Freightliner dump truck with an attached flatbed trailer. This vehicle was used over several days to steal a mini-excavator in Cumberland County and two ATM machines from both Cumberland and Harnett counties. Investigators with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office identified Logan Ray Barefoot and Bobby Dean Burnette as suspects through video surveillance obtained during the investigation.

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Logan Barefoot was arrested, leading investigators to the 700 block of Partin Road in Dunn, where they recovered the Freightliner dump truck, flatbed trailer, mini-excavator, and both ATM machines. Barefoot and Burnette were also identified as the suspects in the previous case involving the stolen Ford tow truck and excavators. All the reported stolen property, valued at approximately $274,000, has been recovered.

**Logan Ray Barefoot**, 28, of Erwin, NC, faces the following charges:

– (2) counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle
– (2) counts of felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle
– (3) counts of felony larceny
– (1) count of felony breaking and entering
– (1) count of felony larceny after breaking and entering
– (4) counts of felony possession of stolen goods/property
– (5) counts of felony conspiracy
– (1) count of misdemeanor injury to real property

**Bobby Dean Burnette**, 59, of Erwin, NC, faces the following charges:

– (1) count of felony larceny of a motor vehicle
– (1) count of felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle
– (2) counts of felony larceny
– (2) counts of felony possession of stolen goods/property
– (3) counts of felony conspiracy
– (1) count of felony possession of cocaine
– (1) count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
– (1) count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana

Logan Barefoot is currently held at the Harnett County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond. Bobby Burnette is also confined at the same facility under a $40,000 secured bond. The Dunn Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office have been provided with information to assist their investigations, as several crimes occurred outside the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. Additional charges against both individuals are possible as the investigations continue.
