Caregiver charged with involuntary manslaughter

On 08/20/2024 at approximately 4:43pm. Johnston County 911 Communications received a call from an individual later identified as 55 year old Roger Lee Inge Jr. from Warrenton, NC. Mr. Inge stated he was responsible for the death of an individual who was in his vehicle. The 911 Communications Call Taker was able to get Mr. Inge to stop driving and pull over at the fire department located at 9039 Cleveland Rd., Clayton so help could be sent to his location. EMS and fire personnel along with Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were notified and responded to this location. Upon arrival by first responders, it was determined Dotarious Batts was deceased in the vehicle. Through the investigation conducted by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, it was learned Mr. Inge was a full time caregiver for 22 year old Dotarious Batts of Warrenton, NC. Mr. Batts was identified as a special needs adult who could not care for himself.  Mr. Inge stated he was employed as a full time caregiver for Mr. Batts through Universal Health Care. Mr. Inge further stated to deputies he was also a janitor at Cleveland High School. Mr. Inge stated he arrived at Cleveland High School at approximately 8:00am, With Mr. Batt’s in his vehicle. Mr. Inge stated he left Mr. Batts in his vehicle with the windows up and the engine off. Mr. Inge stated he checked on Mr. Batts at approximately 10:00 am and he was fine. Mr. Inge stated he finished his shift not returning to his vehicle again until approximately 4:17pm at which time he found Mr. Batts to be deceased. Mr. Inge left the school and called 911 and after speaking with the call taker pulled over at the fire department. As a result of the investigation, detectives arrested Mr. Inge charging him with involuntary manslaughter. Mr. Inge was placed under a $35,000 secure bond. No additional details are being released at this time.
