Harnett Country Sheriffs getting new Body Cams

Harnett County sheriff’s deputies are set to be equipped with body cameras starting November, enhancing accountability and transparency in law enforcement operations. This initiative, funded initially by asset forfeiture money, involves no direct cost to taxpayers for the first two years. Sheriff Wayne Coats, leveraging previous investments in dashcams, emphasized the role of bodycams in potential de-escalation and providing clear evidence during interactions. Residents have long advocated for this technology, which complements existing dashcams to offer more comprehensive visual coverage. This strategic move aims to bolster both officer and civilian safety amidst rising concerns about law enforcement encounters.
